Grip on your phone or tablet can't connect
- Make sure your phone or tablet and your computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Make sure the Grip companion app is running on your computer. All three icons in the Grip setup window should be green.
- Quit Grip on your phone or tablet, then open it again.
- Open Grip on your computer, then choose Restart Companion from the app menu. On Windows, use File > Restart Companion. On Mac, use Grip > Restart Companion.
- On Windows, check that the firewall is allowing Grip. See the Windows setup guide.
Grip can't connect to Live
- In Live's Settings, under Link, Tempo & MIDI, choose Grip as the Control Surface. See our setup guide for Mac or Windows.
- Quit Live and open it again.
- Reinstall the Control Surface script from the Grip app.
Grip companion won't start
- Open Grip on your computer, then choose Restart Companion from the app menu.
- On Windows, check that your antivirus isn't blocking Grip.
- If it still won't start, email [email protected] and send a diagnostic report: Help → Save Diagnostic Report.
What do I need to use Grip?
Ableton Live 11 or later and Grip Desktop, plus the free Grip app on your phone or tablet. Both connect over the same Wi-Fi network.

Grip Desktop has a 7-day free trial, then $15.00 USD to unlock. The Grip app on your phone or tablet is free.
How do I unlock Grip for Mac?
After you buy, you'll get a license key by email. Open Grip for Mac and choose Grip > License... in the menu bar, or click the Activate button if you see it. Enter the email you used to purchase and your license key, then click Activate.
How do I unlock Grip for Windows?
After you buy, you'll get a license key by email. Open Grip for Windows and choose File > License..., or click the Activate button if you see it. Enter the email you used to purchase and your license key, then click Activate.
